Accountant, IISS-Europe
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a defence and security think tank that has a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and geo-economics in a global context. Its international researchers provide best-in-class independent and impartial analysis and provide insights on strategic challenges and priorities to governments and the private sector. It is expert at bringing together national leaders and senior policymakers in foreign policy, defence and security; promoting dialogue; and facilitating effective and influential bilateral and multilateral consultations.
The IISS are seeking to appoint a qualified or part qualified Accountant with experience to support the finance function in their IISS−Europe office in Germany. This role will be reporting to the Head of Finance (with dotted lines to the Managing Director of the IISS−Europe if based in Germany).
Responsibilities
- Maintain and account for purchase ledger including petty cash and cash advances.
- Process and account for corporate credit cards and staff expenses.
- Management Accounts, for example grant reporting, preparation and reconciliations of accruals, prepayments, and fixed assets monthly.
- Grant reporting to external funders.
- Budgeting and quarterly forecasting.
- Liaising with our German tax advisors in the preparation and filing of VAT returns monthly, yearly including the preparation of tax returns for the IISS-Europe.
- Support with the implementation of a new finance and expenses system.
Requirements
- The candidate will need strong German and English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Qualified Accountant or part qualified accountant actively looking to secure their qualifications.
- Demonstrable experience in a finance role.
- Willing to travel with expectation of up to 2 trips to London/Berlin each year.
