Programme Administrator for South and Central Asian Defence Strategy and Diplomacy Programme
Hours: Full-time
Contract: Fixed term (until 31.03.2025)
Location: London
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a world-leading research organisation that provides independent, objective information on military, geopolitical and geo-economic developments that could lead to conflict. It is headquartered in London with offices in Bahrain, Berlin, Singapore, and Washington D.C.
We seek to appoint a Programme Administrator who will be based in our London office. This position will assist the South and Central Asian Defence, Strategy and Diplomacy Programme in its implementation and management of various ‘track 1.5’ activities on political, security and defence issues in South and Central Asia. The region covers Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and key Central Asian and Indian Ocean Island states.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
- Providing administrative and logistical support in the implementation of the South and Central Asian Defence, Strategy and Diplomacy Programme’s project deliverables, including event planning for international workshops, grant and budget reporting, tracking deliverables and timelines, the dissemination of project publications, and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Generating, issuing, and tracking invitations, and assisting with arranging venue hire, accommodation, catering, and transportation.
- Helping with background preparation for events, drafting event summaries and reports.
- Opportunities, if there is time and space, for providing research support on topics related to the South and Central Asian Defence, Strategy and Diplomacy Programme.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience on administrative issues.
- Proven experience organising workshops, conferences, and other events.
- A demonstrably keen eye for detail and great organisational skills.
- Bachelor or master’s degree in the field of economics, international relations, defence and security, or other relevant topics.
- Proven experience, preferably in an international environment, working on international security-related issues.
- Demonstrable interest in security, defence or political issues in South or Central Asia.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and sharp attention to detail.
- Computer literacy with excellent Microsoft skills.
- Ability to collaborate well with a wide range of people both in person and remotely across time-zones.
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks.
