The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is seeking a Visiting Research Fellow to work on South Asian nuclear issues for a two-month period. The role involves research, publications, leading seminars, and participating in conferences. Candidates should have expertise in Indian nuclear and strategic affairs, with a relevant postgraduate degree.

Hours: Full-time
Contract: Two months from January 2024
Location: London
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a world-leading think tank which examines issues of global security, political risk and military conflict. The IISS has offices in London, Berlin, Singapore, Manama and Washington DC.
An opportunity has arisen at The International Institute for Strategic Studies, in London, for a Visiting Research Fellow position to work on South Asian nuclear issues within the IISS South and Central Asian Defence, Strategy and Diplomacy Programme for a two-month period.
The selected individual will work closely with the Research Fellow and Senior Fellow in the Programme.
Tasks
This will involve:
Research and publications on Indian nuclear and strategic affairs; this could include issues of nuclear non-proliferation, arms control, defence & deterrence, doctrinal and strategic issues.
- Leading on a related policy-relevant seminar at the IISS; and publishing for the IISS.
- Participating in related IISS-led conferences and workshops.
- Giving talks at universities and research institutions in the UK on India’s nuclear and strategic matters.
Requirements
This position should appeal to individuals who have:
- Published expertise or proven experience in, or currently or formerly with, the Indian armed forces or the Indian government.
- An undergraduate and preferably postgraduate degree relating to strategic studies, military affairs, international relations, or a related field including in relevant science and engineering.
