Assistant Editor

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is seeking an Assistant Editor to contribute to the work of the Editorial Services team. Responsibilities include fact-checking, copy-editing, proofreading IISS publications, project-managing publications, and copy-editing newsletters. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, demonstrable copy-editing and proofreading skills, and experience in editorial project management.

Responsibilities

  • Fact-checking, copy-editing and proofreading IISS publications, to IISS House Style (including text, maps and infographics).
  • Project-managing IISS publications, including *Adelphi* books, and research papers for print and digital formats.
  • Copy-editing and proofreading IISS newsletters and other Institute communications, to IISS House Style.
  • Participating as necessary in product development and sales and marketing discussions for IISS publications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience (essential).
  • Demonstrable ability to copy-edit and proofread in English and a sharp eye for detail (essential).
  • Previous demonstrable experience in editorial project management (essential).
  • Basic experience of relationship management (essential).
  • An understanding of international affairs or global military issues (advantageous).
