Job Description

A welcoming Primary school in Birmingham North is seeking a Learning Mentor to support pupils who need a little extra encouragement to stay confident, focused, and emotionally ready to learn. You’ll work with children whose engagement may fluctuate due to confidence, routine, or emotional barriers. Your role will include mentoring sessions, in-class support, and helping pupils break tasks into manageable steps. Some children may need reassurance to begin work; others benefit from structured encouragement when learning feels too difficult. You’ll provide calm guidance, steady motivation, and supportive check-ins that help pupils build positive learning habits. Working closely with class teachers and the pastoral team, you’ll support consistent approaches that strengthen pupil confidence, emotional wellbeing, and readiness to learn. This role suits someone patient, upbeat, and naturally encouraging. Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring support. Support engagement and emotional readiness in class. Assist with routines, transitions, and focus strategies. Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff.

Desired Experience + Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Primary pupils or young children.
  • Warm, encouraging communication style.
  • Confidence supporting motivation and resilience.
  • Strong safeguarding awareness and consistent practice.
