Job Description

A specialist SEND school in Birmingham is seeking an Autism Support Assistant to support pupils on the autism spectrum throughout the school day. You’ll work with children who benefit from structure, consistency, and clear communication to feel safe and ready to engage with learning. Your role will include providing in-class support, using visual prompts, and helping pupils manage transitions and sensory demands. Some pupils may need support with communication or emotional regulation; others benefit from having tasks broken into clear, manageable steps. You’ll help pupils access learning while encouraging independence at a pace that feels achievable for them. Working closely with teachers, therapists, and the wider SEND team, you’ll help implement personalised strategies that support both wellbeing and learning. This role suits someone patient, observant, and confident supporting autistic pupils in a structured, nurturing environment. Support autistic pupils during lessons and daily routines. Use visual supports and clear communication strategies. Assist with transitions and sensory regulation. Work collaboratively with teaching and SEND teams.
