We have an opportunity for a Children and Young Adult Speech & Language Therapist to join their team of staff in the Physiotherapy department.
This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.
Duties of this role include:
- Conduct detailed assessments of speech, language, communication, and swallowing functions using a variety of clinical tools and techniques.
- Develop and deliver evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient goals, including communication therapy, voice therapy, and dysphagia management.
- Monitor and review progress, adjusting intervention plans as required to optimise patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with medical teams, nursing staff, dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.
- Participate in ward rounds, case conferences, and discharge planning, providing specialist input and recommendations.
- Contribute to shared goal-setting and care planning for patients with complex needs.
- Educate patients, families, and carers about therapy strategies, communication aids, and safe swallowing practices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation in line with HCPC, RCSLT, and organisational policies.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- BSc (Hons) or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
- HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with communication and/or swallowing disorders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Postgraduate training in dysphagia or a specialist clinical area.
- Experience working in acute hospital, neurorehabilitation, oncology, or critical care settings.
- Involvement in service development, audit, or quality improvement initiatives.
- Previous CYP experience, specifically speech delay, essential.
