Health and Safety Advisor

This permanent position, based in the heart of Chester, plays a key role in supporting the development and delivery of a robust, company-wide health and safety management system.

This permanent position, based in the heart of Chester, plays a key role in supporting the development and delivery of a robust, company-wide health and safety management system.

Reporting directly to the Head of Health and Safety, the successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills to address and communicate safety matters effectively across the business.

This position is vital in upholding the highest standards of safety, ensuring a secure environment for our employees, guests, and wider stakeholder community.

General Responsibilities include:

  • Support in the development and implementation of a health and safety management system, ensuring that policies, procedures and guidelines are effectively communicated to all employees
  • Ensure effective document control procedures and quality assurance
  • Participate in regular health and safety committee meetings, documenting actions and following up on any outstanding tasks or issues
  • Deputise for the Head of Health and Safety in their absence and share duties on race and event days
  • Foster a positive safety culture by engaging employees in safety initiatives, encouraging active participation in safety committees and meetings
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours, including non-compliance with health and safety processes and protocols
  • Investigate all minor incidents, claims and complaints, ensuring thorough investigation, appropriate action and timely resolution with necessary changes put in place
  • Assist in tracking operational KPIs and measuring incident rates against the national average
  • Support the development and delivery of training programs to enhance employee knowledge and maintain a training matrix to identify and address skills gaps
  • Stay up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all developments affecting the racing and events industry
  • Coordinate with external service providers to ensure their adherence to health and safety protocols and integrate their processes into the wider system
  • Monitor and evaluate contractor performance through regular engagement via inspections and audits, addressing any issues that arise
  • Assist in organising workplace health and safety tours, visits, and observations by company leaders to improve visibility and engagement
  • Provide health and safety response during race days, including coordinating medical incidents, and collecting incident data to feedback
  • Conduct pre-event inspections, briefings and event risk assessments to ensure the site is in a safe condition, logging and resolving any issues before the event begins

Key requirements:

  • Previous experience within a Health and Safety position
  • Proven experience in supporting and delivering health and safety management systems, including risk assessments and safety procedures
  • Experience in site inspections, managing incidents and identifying hazards, with the ability to implement appropriate control measures
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation, regulations and best practices
  • NEBOSH General Certificate qualification in occupational health and safety is mandatory
  • Qualification in Level 4 Spectator Safety Management is desirable
  • Qualification in ISO 9001 Internal Auditor is desirable

What we offer:

CRC offer a great selection of benefits, from Race Day tickets to enhanced pension contributions. 

Salary:  Up to £37,000 per annum (dependant on experience)

Hours of work:

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

CRC is an event company; you will be required to work some weekends and evenings.  Any work beyond the contracted hours will be eligible for time off in lieu.

CRC has a flexible approach to working hours, which should be agreed with your line manager.
