We are looking for an aspiring Junior Lighting Artist to join our team onsite in Manchester. In this entry-level role, you will help us raise the bar for the gaming industry by bringing “Cinematic Sci-Fi Realism” to life across the vast solar systems of Star Citizen.

We are looking for an aspiring Junior Lighting Artist to join our team onsite in Manchester. In this entry-level role, you will help us raise the bar for the gaming industry by bringing “Cinematic Sci-Fi Realism” to life across the vast solar systems of Star Citizen.

As a Junior Lighting Artist, you will be a key part of the team responsible for lighting the diverse locations of Star Citizen. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills while working on everything from moody space stations to vibrant, neon-filled cityscapes.

What does a Junior Lighting Artist at CIG do?

  • Create believable, cinematic lighting scenarios for in-game locations under the guidance of our senior team.
  • Learn how to ensure high-quality lighting works seamlessly within defined real-time rendering budgets.
  • Work closely with the Lighting Lead and Art Director to help realise the project’s artistic vision.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gain a holistic understanding of how lighting impacts the player experience.

What do we expect from our Junior Lighting Artists?

  • A genuine drive to create inspirational and atmospheric lighting.
  • A basic understanding of material shading, physically based rendering (PBR), and how different materials impact a final frame.
  • A budding knowledge of cinematic lighting techniques and the technical curiosity to learn more.
  • An ability to use various reference materials to challenge yourself and improve your craft.
  • Experience (which can include personal or academic projects) in creating high-quality real-time lighting scenarios.
  • A desire to be part of a passionate, communicative team.
