Participation Fee: £250

Closing date: Sat 10th Aug 2024 11:59pm

Job Description

Echoes is a unique workshop series brought to you by Art'Morte. We aim to provide a profound space for artists to delve into the nuanced realms of silence and mortality, themes often sidelined yet deeply ingrained in the human experience.

This 5-day workshop from 14 to 18 August 2024 is especially designed for physical theatre practitioners to develop their ideas and skills through Butoh training.

舞踏, Butoh is a form of Japanese avant-garde dance which emerged from the post war chaos in Japan in the late 50s when the country grappled by the clash between new Western technology and traditional Japanese values. It was called ‘the dance of darkness’. Influenced by German Expressionism, self-identity was radically explored with bodily expression.

With Butoh artist Yumino Seki, the workshop will include Butoh’s brief historical background and discussion over Butoh and European physical theatre.
