Mid-Level Derivatives Associate – [Employer hidden]
Are you an ambitious lawyer with a strong foundation in derivatives and structured products? Do you enjoy working on complex transactions for sophisticated financial institutions and investment managers? Looking for the next step in your career within a collaborative, international law firm environment?
The Client
Our client is a leading international law firm seeking a mid-level associate to join its derivatives and structured finance practice. This role offers the opportunity to advise global financial institutions, asset managers, and corporate clients on innovative, cross-border transactions across asset classes.
The Role
As a Mid-Level Associate, you will play a key role in drafting, negotiating, and advising on a broad range of derivatives and structured products transactions. You will work closely with senior lawyers and clients on matters that are both technically challenging and commercially significant.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising on OTC derivatives, cleared derivatives, and structured products transactions across asset classes (including equity, credit, FX, commodities, and interest rates).
- Drafting and negotiating ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, clearing documentation, prime brokerage agreements, and related trading documentation.
- Supporting clients with regulatory issues affecting derivatives markets (e.g., EMIR, MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, margin rules).
- Advising buy-side clients, including private funds and asset managers, on trading relationships, collateral arrangements, and cross-border considerations.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across practice groups on financings, securitisations, and other capital markets transactions involving derivatives.
About You
We are seeking a talented lawyer with strong technical expertise and commercial awareness. You should bring:
- Qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales (or another common law jurisdiction with relevant UK derivatives experience).
- 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience in derivatives and structured products, ideally gained at a financial institution (open to consider outside this PQE for the right candidate).
- Experience advising both buy-side and sell-side clients.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- A proactive, adaptable, and collaborative approach to complex matters.
What’s on Offer?
- Competitive market-leading compensation package (Cravath salary scale)
- Exposure to high-profile cross-border transactions.
- Opportunity to develop expertise across a wide range of derivatives and structured products.
- Supportive and inclusive team culture with clear career progression opportunities.
