Job Description

Year 5 Class Teacher (Open to ECTs!)

  • Contract: Maternity Cover
  • Start date: 1st September 2026
  • End date: TBC, expected contract length to be 1 or 2 terms
  • Location: South Croydon

A successful and reputable one-form-entry primary school near to South Croydon is seeking a Year 5 Class Teacher to support them with a maternity cover contract from September 2026.

This primary school is situated in a lovely sub-urban town on the border of Croydon and Surrey, with excellent transport routes as it is walking distance from Purley overground train station, plus, host on-site parking or free on-street parking nearby.

At present, we have a Teacher completing this contract for us currently and is going on maternity herself! Feedback is consistently positive for this school, with this Teacher noting how great the senior leadership support is and behaviour is fantastic.

The Headteacher is one of the most understanding I have worked with - despite doing a full teaching contract, she does not expect you to stay once the children have all left site and she gives 1 full day fortnightly off-timetable to dedicate to planning (paid as normal).

This is a classroom teaching role in KS2 offered on your pay scale in line with experience via PAYE.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full teaching responsibility for a Key Stage 2 class (Year 5)
  • Maintain a positive learning environment and ensure pupils' health, safety and well-being
  • Prepare pupils for end-of-KS2 expectations
  • Assess, record and report on pupils' progress, development, attainment, and personal and social needs

Why Work with Tradewind:

  • Competitive pay rates and access to top education talent
  • Extensive training and professional development opportunities - 25 fully certified CPD courses
  • Referral scheme - recommend a friend and earn up to £100
  • Comprehensive interview preparation and ongoing support, including lesson planning assistance
  • Online portal to manage timesheets and availability
  • Free social and networking events

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Enhanced DBS Disclosure, overseas police clearance (if applicable), and professional references
  • CV covering the last 10 years of employment, with explanations for any gaps
  • Legal right to work in the UK

Please submit your updated CV for consideration ASAP!
