FULL DESCRIPTION

The Equestrian Yard Co-ordinator is responsible for the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the yard, ensuring the highest standards of horse care, team coordination, and student support. This role oversees the management of approximately 28 riding school horses and 30 student livery horses during term time, while leading a team of grooms and working collaboratively with senior staff.

Key Responsibilities: -Horse Management & Welfare

  • Oversee the daily care and routines of all horses on site, ensuring high standards at all times.
  • Prepare and oversee feeding routines.
  • Manage supplies and stock levels.
  • Organise and supervise the timely tacking up of horses.
  • Act as first point of call for minor injuries or health concerns, administering basic treatment as required.
  • Liaise with senior staff and external professionals (e.g. vets, farriers).

Yard Operations:

  • Manage daily yard routines to ensure efficiency and consistency
  • Conduct field checks and oversee horse rotation and field management
  • Maintain yard organisation, cleanliness, and safety standards
  • Ensure all equipment and tack is maintained and used correctly

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, supervise, and support a team of 5 grooms working on shift patterns
  • Plan and manage staff rotas to ensure adequate cover at all times
  • Provide training, guidance, and performance oversight for grooms
  • Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented working environment

Student Support & Safeguarding

Essential:

  • BHS Horse Care Stage 2/3.
  • Strong practical previous experience in horse care and yard management
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Confident handling a variety of horses in a busy yard environment
  • Knowledge of equine health, feeding, and welfare practices

REQUIREMENTS

This role has become available as a result of a current team member securing a place at veterinary school. A full training period and thorough handover can be provided for the successful candidate, particularly if they are able to start promptly, as the current staff member will remain in post until August 2026.
