FULL DESCRIPTION

An enthusiastic Associate Lecturer is sought to join the Practice Learning team in the Department of Health Sciences, focusing on midwifery. The role involves supporting students, supervisors, and assessors to enhance teaching and learning in clinical settings, and contributing to pre-registration midwifery and nursing programs. This is a part-time, 12-month fixed-term position.

Role Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic Associate Lecturer to join the Practice Learning team in the Department of Health Sciences, with a primary focus on midwifery. The Practice Learning Team provides a link between midwifery and nursing students, the University, and staff in practice placement settings to ensure students have support with any practice-learning related issues or concerns. The focus of the Associate Lecturer role is to  support students, practice supervisors, and assessors to promote and enhance teaching, learning and assessment in a range of clinical practice settings across our locality. In addition, the role will involve contributions to the learning, teaching and assessment of clinical skills in our pre-registration midwifery and nursing programmes. The successful applicant may also have the opportunity to contribute to our continuing professional development programmes at undergraduate and/or post-graduate levels. 

This is a part time (0.4fte) 12 month fixed term role. Secondments can be considered.

Role 

To contribute to the learning, support and assessment of students in the practice environment  (formative and summative), including those related to the development of clinical skills and  competencies through simulated practice  

To develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students  

To carry out ongoing curriculum review, including module content and materials and contribute to  the development of teaching and learning strategies  

To undertake effectively a range of administrative responsibilities

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed 

Undergraduate degree in Nursing or Midwifery, and current registration as a Nurse or Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Council 

Detailed knowledge of contemporary clinical practice, sufficient to develop teaching and provide relevant  learning support to students across different levels of academic ability 

Knowledge and experience of supporting, monitoring and enhancing the quality of practice learning  environments 

Knowledge of NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA), and delivery of safe and  effective learning experiences for students in practice 

Ability to engage with practice partners, supervisors and assessors to facilitate and enhance effective  learning and assessment in clinical practice environments
