Are you an experienced, time‑served Instrumentation or Control Systems Engineer who enjoys hands‑on, site‑based engineering work?
We are looking for a Systems and Applications Engineer to join our UK regional customer support teams covering the UK and Ireland.
This role is predominantly field‑based and practical, focused on industrial instrumentation, analysers, sensors, scanners and measurement systems in live production environments.
Your Responsibilities
You will adhere to regulatory and Company health, safety and environmental policy and, as this is a customer-facing role, you will be required to positively influence the [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] reputation by displaying a professional dedication toward customer service. You will be involved in the delivery of projects, maintenance and breakdown services to [Employer hidden]’s UK installed base customers within the Paper Making, Power Generation, Process industries, Minerals and the Marine sectors. Whilst primarily employed to look after [Employer hidden]’s growing installed base in your North West England region, there will be necessity to travel within the UK, and occasionally within the EU, with resulting time away from home. You will provide routine and on demand customer service including software development and documentation, maintenance / inspection of automation systems, which will include providing periodic out of hours ‘On-Call’ emergency support.
You will:
- Be a time‑served, hands‑on engineer, ideally apprenticeship trained, with at least 5 years’ practical experience in industrial instrumentation, measurement or control environments.
- Be comfortable working on site, in plant environments, carrying out maintenance and fault‑finding on live systems.
- Be confident using hand tools to remove, repair and replace system components.
Understand:
- Electrical circuits and fault diagnosis
- Pneumatic circuits and instrumentation
- Analogue and digital signal transmission and troubleshooting
Have process control awareness, including:
- How measurements affect process performance
- The importance of accuracy and reliability
- Basic PID control principles (single loop / cascade awareness)
Be willing and happy to continue in a field‑based engineering role
Hold a full UK driving license and fluent in English both written and verbal. Other languages are a plus.
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and colleagues.
You may also have:
- Practical working knowledge of industrial automation systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI) from a maintenance or field support perspective.
- Experience with online and offline analysers in industrial process environments.
- HNC / HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
- Experience identifying improvement or service opportunities during site work.
- Experience producing clear and accurate service / maintenance documentation.
