The opportunity
Are you an experienced Casualty Trading Underwriter looking to further develop your career? This is a great opportunity to work on a diverse and technically engaging portfolio, with exposure to a wide range of risks, clients and broker relationships across the market. The role is suited to someone who already brings solid underwriting capability and is ready to operate with greater autonomy and responsibility.
You’ll play an active role in underwriting and managing both new business and renewals, applying strong technical knowledge, commercial judgement and market insight to support profitable growth. Working closely with experienced colleagues, brokers and wider internal teams, you’ll help shape underwriting outcomes while continuing to develop your expertise. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being market‑facing, values collaboration, and is motivated to further strengthen their position as a confident, well‑rounded Commercial Casualty underwriter.

What will you be doing?
- Underwrite primary and excess of loss Commercial Casualty business, including Employers’ Liability and Public / Products Liability, operating within agreed underwriting authority, appetite and pricing frameworks.
- Take an active role in the underwriting and ongoing management of global programmes and non‑conventional structures for commercial customers, contributing technical input on more complex placements.
- Independently assess risk, analyse underwriting information and apply robust technical and commercial judgement to deliver profitable and sustainable underwriting outcomes.
- Develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with external brokers and customers, actively supporting the promotion and delivery of [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk]’s Casualty proposition in the market.
- Lead and contribute meaningfully to broker meetings, presentations and market interactions, supporting both new business growth and retention of existing portfolios.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across underwriting, claims, pricing and wider business teams to deliver agreed initiatives, projects and business objectives.
- Demonstrate confident communication, collaboration and negotiation skills, influencing outcomes with brokers, customers and internal colleagues.
- Contribute to the continued development of the team by sharing market insight, supporting process improvements and embedding underwriting best practice.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience as a Casualty Underwriter, underwriting and managing both new business and renewal portfolios; exposure to international programmes and more complex placements is desirable.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to collaborate, negotiate and communicate effectively with brokers, customers and internal stakeholders to deliver profitable underwriting outcomes.
- A team‑focused, customer‑first mindset, contributing to Casualty team financial plans, portfolio performance and high standards of customer service, including contract certainty.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive working practices, promoting diversity and respectful behaviours across all interactions.
- Sound understanding of, and adherence to, governance, risk management and compliance standards embedded in day‑to-day underwriting activity.
- Flexibility to work in a hybrid model, recognising this is a market‑facing role requiring a regular office presence and a commutable distance to London.
