Level 2 Teaching Assistant – The Harbour: Resource Provision Supporting Children with Communication and Interaction Needs
We are looking for a skilled practitioner to work within our Resource Provision Unit who has a wealth of SEND knowledge. Candidates need to have recent experience of dealing successfully with children who may have complex needs. The role will involve working within The Harbour Unit and supporting children when they spend time within their mainstream classroom.
The successful candidate will have a wealth of Early Years experience and have a background of providing high quality learning experiences adapted to meet needs identified within an EHCP. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Teaching Assistant who can think creatively and have the determination to secure the best possible outcomes for every child.
A little more about who we are looking for:
Are you someone who can turn a tricky moment into a triumph, a wobble into a win, and a challenge into a chance to connect? Do you believe that relationships come first, humour helps everything, and every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued?
If so, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.
Who We Are: We are a warm, child centred school with a dedicated Resource Provision for pupils with communication and interaction difficulties. Our approach is deeply relational: we build trust, nurture confidence, and celebrate every step forward, no matter how small.
We work hard, we laugh often, and we support each other wholeheartedly. We are a team, but we are also a family.
The Role: As a Level 2 Teaching Assistant in our Resourced Provision, you will be a key part of a small, skilled, and passionate team. You will work closely with children who may communicate differently, learn differently, or experience the world differently – and you will help them thrive.
Your role will include: • Building strong, safe, trusting relationships • Supporting communication and interaction in creative, personalised ways • Helping children regulate, engage, and succeed • Working alongside teachers, therapists, and families • Celebrating progress that truly matters
No two days are the same, and that is part of what makes this role so rewarding.
What You Bring We are looking for someone with: • Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly communication and interaction needs • Grit and determination – you don’t give up easily • A strong sense of humour • A relational mindset – you understand that connection comes before curriculum • A calm, compassionate presence • A team focused attitude and willingness to get stuck in
If you are someone who sees potential where others see challenge, we would love to meet you.
What We Offer • A nurturing, relational environment where staff wellbeing truly matters • A supportive team who will cheer you on and have your back • Opportunities to grow your skills and confidence • The chance to make a real, lasting difference in children’s lives
You will be responsible for:
• Providing high quality, individualised support for pupils with identified SEND needs within the resourced provision, adapting activities and resources to ensure full access to learning.
• Implementing specialist strategies and interventions (e.g., communication aids, sensory regulation approaches, structured routines) under the guidance of the class teacher and SEND professionals.
• Supporting inclusive practice across the school, enabling pupils to participate meaningfully in both the provision and mainstream settings where appropriate, and promoting independence, confidence, and positive relationships.
• Contributing to the school’s statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children
Your qualities will include
• A nurturing, patient and empathetic approach, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who have a range of SEND needs.
• Flexibility, creativity and resilience, enabling you to adapt to pupils’ changing needs, manage challenges calmly, and support specialist interventions confidently.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families to provide consistent, child centred support.
• Displaying commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people.
Visits are warmly welcomed — please contact the school office to arrange a time to come and see our wonderful, nurturing provision.
To apply, please read the attached job description and person spec and then complete the attached application form, including a supporting statement that outlines how you meet each of the criteria set out in the person specification. Please return the application form to Beccy Merritt at [contact hidden] by 4pm 24th April 2026. Visits are welcomed, to arrange a time slot please email the school on [contact hidden].
We are committed to being an inclusive employer. If you require any reasonable adjustments to the application or interview process, please contact us at [HR/recruitment email.
[Employer hidden] is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
If shortlisted we will take up references prior to interview and will complete an online check. Shortlisted candidates will also need to complete a Criminal Record Self Disclosure. The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide those certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected' and are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website. As this role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check with a Barred List check. Our pre-employment process will also include Teacher Prohibition List checks, overseas checks (where applicable); proof of qualifications (as specified in the person specification); section 128 checks (for those in management roles); medical fitness checks; identity and right to work checks. Applicants for roles working with children under five years during the school day and under eight years for those working in wraparound care will also be subject to Childcare Disqualification checks.
It is an offence to apply for any paid role in a school if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
