Job Details

We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our busy and high‑performing Private Sector Housing Team at [Employer hidden]. This is a key enforcement role at the forefront of implementing the new protections introduced by the Renters’ Rights Act 2025, helping to ensure that residents are safe, secure and treated fairly in the private rented sector.

As a Tenancy Enforcement Officer, you will play a vital role in investigating illegal evictions and landlord harassment, taking proportionate and effective enforcement action, and supporting tenants to understand and exercise their rights. You will work closely with colleagues across housing, legal services and partner agencies, contributing to a service that is committed to raising standards and protecting some of our most vulnerable residents.

Key responsibilities

You will:

  • Investigate complaints of illegal eviction and harassment, gathering evidence and taking appropriate enforcement action
  • Use powers under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025, Protection from Eviction Act 1977, Housing Act 1988 and related legislation
  • Prepare prosecution files, attend court and tribunals, and issue civil penalties where offences are proven
  • Provide clear, practical advice to tenants and landlords on their rights and responsibilities
  • Intervene directly to support tenants at risk of unlawful eviction or harassment
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Private Sector Housing team to improve standards in the private rented sector
  • Engage with stakeholders through advice, training and awareness‑raising activities

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of housing enforcement, tenancy relations or regulatory work, or a strong background in investigation and enforcement
  • Has a sound understanding of housing and tenancy legislation, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge
  • Is confident gathering evidence, interviewing parties and making defensible enforcement decisions
  • Can communicate clearly and sensitively with tenants, landlords and partner organisations
  • Is organised, resilient and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, sometimes challenging environment
  • Is committed to fairness, professionalism and high standards of public service
