Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is recruiting a Safety and Compliance Officer with a focus on Asbestos & Legionella. The role involves managing asbestos, supporting Legionella management, conducting inspections, and ensuring tenant safety. Key responsibilities include coordinating inspections, maintaining the asbestos register, working with stakeholders, and preparing reports. The ideal candidate will have experience in asbestos and legionella management, knowledge of health and safety legislation, and the ability to work in a team.

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Safety and Compliance Officer with a specific focus on Asbestos & Legionella who can help us manage compliance and carry out inspections to ensure the safety of our tenants.

As a Safety & Compliance Officer – Asbestos & Legionella you will take the lead in all aspects of asbestos management and support the responsible person in the management of Legionella. Key tasks will include:

  • Manage and coordinate NBBC’s asbestos re-inspection programme.
  • Implement and coordinate surveys and assessments ensuring they are recorded appropriately.
  • Ensure the asbestos register is kept up to date.
  • Work with key stakeholders such as contractors and staff to ensure excellent management of asbestos across all NBBC properties.
  • Carry out and support with investigations related to Asbestos incidents as required.
  • Liaise with tenants to keep them informed about asbestos in their homes.
  • Work with the responsible person for Legionella to ensure water hygiene is maintained across all NBBC properties
  • Follow up and resolve actions raised from re inspections, surveys and LRAs.
  • Prepare asbestos/legionella related reports for senior managers and the regulator of social housing.

We are looking for people who have experience dealing with asbestos and legionella from either a practical or management perspective.

You should have good knowledge of CAR 2015 and other relevant health and safety legislation.

You will need to be comfortable working as part of a team and using your own initiative whilst having a keen eye for attention to detail.

This is a fast paced environment and the ability to balance competing priorities is also essential.

To succeed in this role you should have the following experience:

  • Experience of undertaking health and safety related inspections
  • Experience of communicating with people at various levels
  • Knowledge of, and ability to interpret current health and safety legislation
  • Experience of asbestos management.
  • Knowledge of legionella safety.

You should have (or be willing to work towards) the following qualifications:

  • NEBOSH General certificate
