Applications are invited for the position of a Consultant in Neonatology and Neonatal Transport in the Neonatal Unit, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, NHS Grampian, and the national ScotSTAR Neonatal Transport Service (SNTS). The post attracts 10 PAs (4 ScotSTAR, 4 AMH and 2 SPA). The Neonatal Unit, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital (AMH) and the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital (RACH) provide the principal hospital services for newborns and children in the Grampian Region and the Orkney and Shetland Islands (population approx 590,000).
The Neonatal Unit is located within the Maternity Hospital which is on the main Hospital site at Foresterhill along with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital and the University Aberdeen Medical School. Plans are well underway for the build of the new Baird Family Hospital which will be operational by 2025 for delivery of Women’s Service and Neonatal Care in Aberdeen and North of Scotland Region.
Four PAs of this post are dedicated to transport duties with the ScotSTAR Neonatal Transport Service, as part of the Scottish Ambulance Service. This represents an opportunity to gain expertise and knowledge in this area of clinical practice.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic, motivated team in the Neonatal Unit here in Aberdeen. We welcome your experience to contribute to our services in the Neonatal Unit and and SNTS. The unit is the Northern hub within the SNTS, providing regular cover for Shetland and Orkney, Inverness by road ambulance, fixed wing aircraft and helicopter.
We are looking for someone who can bring new and innovative ideas to support our continuing programme of improvement within the unit and can contribute to transport services. There are also opportunities in Teaching, Audit and Research within a team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Middle and Junior Grade Medical Staff, ANNPs and Nursing and Midwifery teams.
Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry
on the GMC Specialist Register.
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.
