SENIOR FULL-STACK ENGINEER

THE POSITION

We are looking for a Senior Full-stack Engineer to join a world-renowned U.S. Press & Media company. You will be part of a small and agile group responsible for the technology that powers global election reporting.

In this role, you will be the "architect of the engine" behind the news. You will build systems that scrape massive amounts of data in real-time and develop the internal dashboards used by many journalists and analysts to inform the world during high-stakes election cycles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Modernise & Refactor: Lead the refactoring of core internal user interfaces (Angular) and build the next generation of data-driven dashboards.
• Data Automation & Scraping: Design and maintain automated ETL pipelines and web-scraping systems (using Python) to gather comprehensive election results.
• Full-stack Development: Build and maintain internal web applications and APIs (Flask) for data management, monitoring, and workflow coordination.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Manage and deploy services in AWS (EC2 Linux) environments, ensuring the reliability of long-running automated systems.
• AI/ML Integration: Leverage AI and Machine Learning techniques to optimise data quality, automate routine user tasks, and support intelligent features within the tools.
• High-Stakes Operations: Participate in pre-election trials, load tests, and quality-control exercises to ensure systems perform under real-world election-night conditions.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Python Expertise: Professional experience building production-grade applications with Python (Flask) and handling complex data workflows.
• Frontend Mastery: Strong experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, specifically Angular, for refactoring and building complex UIs.
• *AWS & Data Stack: Proficiency with DynamoDB, EC2, and SQL.* Familiarity with cloud data environments is essential.
• Automation & Scraping: Hands-on experience with web scraping tools.
• Linux Proficiency: Ability to manage system packages, configure virtual environments, and monitor application performance in Linux environments.
• DevOps Basics: Familiarity with Jenkins for pipeline automation.
• English: Advanced level for direct collaboration with U.S.-based managers and stakeholders.

Preferred/Nice-to-have:

• Experience with Databricks, Redshift, or Big Data technologies (Spark, Kafka).
• Background in data validation, operational monitoring, or newsroom support.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts (pattern recognition, user-assistance features).
