Engineering Surveyor

The role involves liaising with the Lead Surveyor, conducting surveys, and ensuring equipment calibration. The ideal candidate will have a surveying qualification, experience with GIS and surveying programs, and strong interpersonal skills.

[Employer hidden] Services Limited is a rail civil engineering and plant family run business who are currently looking to recruit an Engineering Surveyor. This vacancy is an immediate start.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Liaise with the Lead Surveyor daily
  • Review the work program with the Lead Surveyor
  • Survey to the required standard and gain knowledge on the standards you are working to
  • Have a commercial awareness of both equipment and resources
  • Check all equipment is calibrated
  • Complete handover reports and site diary after each shift in conjunction with the Lead Surveyor
  • Have the ability to process own data
  • Ensure all master trackers are updated after every shift
  • Mentor junior surveyors
  • Attend weekly meetings
  • In the Lead Surveyor’s absence, the Engineering Surveyor will act as Lead Surveyor

The ideal candidate will have

  • A diploma or postgraduate qualification in surveying, civil engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of geographical information systems (GIS) and surveying programs
  • The ability to handle responsibility
  • Mapping skills
  • Good engineering skillset and abilities
  • The capacity to identify problems and to offer solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience of Leica and/or Trimble instruments (GNSS/GPS and total station)
  • Knowledge of (but not limited to) general surveying practices (traversing, levelling, laser scanner (preferred not essential), topographical surveys, setting out etc.)
  • Knowledge of (but not limited to) railway surveying practices (height and stagger gauging, cant and gauge measurements, platform gauging, track/slope monitoring, OLE as-built measurements)
  • Knowledge of surveying programs (LSS, AutoCAD etc.)
  • Attention to detail
  • Full UK driving licence
  • A minimum of one year of surveying experience
