This isn’t a desk‑only role. You’ll be out in the depot, supporting teams, leading from the front and making sure our services run safely, reliably and on time. If you love solving problems, bringing out the best in people and creating a workplace where everyone feels supported and motivated, this one’s for you.
You’ll be based at one of our depots, with the flexibility needed to respond to what’s happening on the ground.
What you’ll do
- Lead, support and empower your operations team, including our Assistant Operations Managers, to deliver a high‑performing, customer‑focused service.
- Create an environment where Drivers, operational teams and colleagues feel listened to, engaged and valued.
- Own depot performance, reporting directly to the Deputy Operations Director.
- Keep operations safe, compliant and efficient, embedding high standards across health & safety, DVSA expectations and company policies.
- Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, from Engineering to Commercial teams, to ensure we hit peak vehicle requirements and deliver for customers.
- Use data and systems (like Tableau, DriveCam and Driver Risk Profile) to spot issues early, make smart decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Manage local budgets responsibly, with realistic forecasting and strong cost control.
- Champion positive driver engagement to improve retention and support wellbeing.
- Act as the Nominated Transport Manager for your location, ensuring compliance and readiness at all times.
- Ensure security procedures, ticketing, CCTV and revenue protection processes are followed to the highest standard.
What you’ll bring
- Experience leading and motivating high‑performing teams.
- A Certificate of Professional Competence (Passenger Transport).
- Strong grasp of operational safety, compliance and industry standards.
- Confidence working with data and digital systems to inform decisions.
- Flexibility, you’re comfortable with shifts and responding to real‑time operational needs.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence others.
- A proactive, calm and customer‑focused mindset.
- Experience working in a unionised environment, or IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications, even better, but not essential
What you get for bringing the energy
- We look after our people. When you join us, you’ll get:
- Free bus and coach travel across our network for you.
- Complimentary travel options for a nominated person.
- Life assurance and a solid company pension.
- Access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
- Online GP services for fast, no‑stress support.
- A workplace that’s genuinely committed to safety, wellbeing and inclusion.
