FULL DESCRIPTION

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Engineer with a background in food production or food packaging manufacturing to join a busy food manufacturing facility in Aston, Birmingham. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity offering long-term stability within a growing food manufacturing operation.

The Role of a Maintenance Engineer

Technical Maintenance (50%)

  • Performing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults
  • Minimising downtime and restoring production quickly
  • Maintaining food production and packaging machinery
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety standards, GMP, and HACCP

Management & Coordination (50%)

  • Plan and organise maintenance schedules and factory shutdowns
  • Supervise maintenance technicians and external contractors
  • Manage spare parts and maintenance inventory
  • Support the maintenance budget and cost control
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and food industry regulations

Machinery & Equipment

  • Steam systems
  • Air compressors
  • Production and packaging machinery
  • Conveyors and belt systems
  • Electric motors and drive systems

Experience maintaining machinery within a food production or food packaging factory environment is highly preferred.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience working in a food production or food packaging facility is strongly preferred
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
  • Experience working within GMP and HACCP standards
  • Knowledge of steam systems, compressors, conveyors, belts, and motors
  • Previous team leadership or supervisory experience advantageous
  • Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
  • Comfortable working hands-on with machinery on the production floor
