Shifts: Sunday to Friday, 10:00am – 5:00pm | Saturday, 10:00am – 4:00pm
12-Week Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
Pay: £15.72 per hour

Role Overview

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] are seeking a reliable, proactive, and customer-focused Café Supervisor to take full day-to-day ownership of a busy café within the vibrant Danum Gallery, Library & Museum in Doncaster.

This is a 12-week temporary role with strong potential for permanent employment based on performance and attendance. As Café Supervisor, you’ll lead the team, oversee operations, and ensure excellent customer service, high operational standards, and a welcoming café environment aligned with Doncaster Council expectations.

This is a hands-on role, combining front-of-house service, food preparation, staff supervision, and operational compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Full accountability for daily café operations, including opening and closing
  • Deliver consistent service in line with Council-approved menus, pricing, and standards
  • Monitor stock usage, portion control, and waste, and assist with cost-effective ordering
  • Complete daily operational paperwork, checks, and reports accurately
  • Support a safe, compliant, and commercially effective café environment

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and motivate café staff during shifts
  • Allocate duties, manage rotas, and provide cover when required
  • Train and support staff on service standards, food safety, and customer care
  • Lead by example, maintaining composure and professionalism during busy periods
  • Encourage team development and maintain high operational standards

Food Safety, Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure strict compliance with food hygiene, allergen legislation, and health & safety
  • Maintain food safety diaries, temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and records
  • Act as first point of contact for Environmental Health or Council representatives if required
  • Maintain cleanliness across kitchen, service, and seating areas

Customer Experience

  • Champion excellent customer service for a wide and diverse customer base
  • Handle customer queries or complaints professionally and promptly
  • Promote an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming café environment
  • Support healthier menu choices appropriate to a public sector setting

Reporting & Communication

  • Provide regular updates to the Operations Manager on performance and operational issues
  • Communicate professionally with on-site Council contacts when required

✅ Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a café, food service, or hospitality supervisory role
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene, allergens, and health & safety
  • Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene (or willingness to obtain immediately)
  • Strong customer service and people management skills

Desirable

  • Experience in a public sector, cultural, or visitor attraction environment
  • Level 3 Food Safety qualification
