Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP)

We’re working with a well-established, growing law firm to appoint a Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP). This is a key leadership role, reporting directly into the COO, with firm-wide responsibility for regulatory compliance under the SRA framework.

The Role?
Take ownership of the firm’s day-to-day compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations (excluding Accounts Rules), ensuring robust systems, controls, and a proactive compliance culture are embedded across the firm.
You’ll act as the primary point of contact for the SRA, lead on breach management and reporting, and work closely with senior stakeholders to drive best practice.

  • Oversee compliance with the SRA Principles and Codes of Conduct across the firm
  • Maintain and enhance systems and controls to monitor regulatory compliance
  • Lead breach management processes, including investigation, remediation, and SRA reporting
  • Drive the firm’s compliance risk framework across key areas such as client care, conflicts, and confidentiality
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and compliance training programmes
  • Partner with the COFA and MLRO/MLCO on cross-functional regulatory and financial crime matters
  • Act as the main contact for SRA enquiries, audits, and regulatory engagement
  • Monitor regulatory developments and implement proportionate changes across the business

About You?

  • UK qualified solicitor
  • Strong working knowledge of the SRA Standards & Regulations and Principles
  • Proven experience operating within an SRA-regulated law firm
  • Confident managing breaches, investigations, and regulatory reporting
  • Able to influence senior stakeholders and operate with independence
