FULL DESCRIPTION

Analytical Scientist II

Are you ready to make a groundbreaking impact in the world of biotechnology? Join a growing company that’s shaping the future of healthcare and science. [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is excited to be partnered with an emerging innovator at the forefront of cell and gene therapy bioprocessing who are looking to recruit a talented Analytical Scientist II to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the development and characterisation of cutting edge biopolymers and next generation analytical tools that are shaping the future of advanced therapies. Working in a highly collaborative, hands on laboratory environment, you’ll take ownership of designing, executing, and interpreting affinity-based analytical methods, with a strong emphasis on Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) and Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). Beyond day to day experimentation, you’ll play an influential role in method development, optimisation, validation, and innovation across a portfolio of interdisciplinary projects. If you thrive on scientific problem solving, fast paced discovery, and generating high quality data with real impact, this environment will suit you perfectly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and perform BLI and SPR affinity measurements to determine binding kinetics, specificity, and affinity for polymers, biomolecules and viral vector targets.
  • Develop, optimise, and troubleshoot affinity-based analytical assays supporting both early?stage and late-stage R&D programmes.
  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for BLI and SPR within the analytical team, guiding colleagues and shaping best practice.
  • Support broader analytical activities including polymer and biomolecule characterisation using complementary biophysical techniques.
  • Conduct robust data processing, statistical analysis, and ensure meticulous scientific documentation.
  • Contribute to experimental planning, execution, and reporting across multi-disciplinary project groups.
  • Produce clear technical reports, SOPs, and work instructions as needed.
  • Support method validation and analytical transfer to manufacturing or QC functions.
  • Uphold excellent laboratory standards, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with GLP and ISO9001 documentation requirements.
  • Drive innovation through involvement in new method introduction, automation initiatives, and digitalisation projects.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Essential

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Proven years of industrial laboratory experience working with affinity?based analytical tools (e.g., BLI, SPR, or related label?free platforms).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute experiments, analyse data, and interpret findings with clarity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in standard software tools (e.g., MS Office).
  • Solid understanding of laboratory safety, documentation standards, and general analytical best practices.

Desirable

  • Experience with Octet or Biacore systems, ideally within biologics or cell/gene therapy applications.
  • Background in polymer analysis or biomolecular interaction characterisation.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments such as ISO13485 or GMP.
  • Experience with complementary biophysical methods (e.g., Flow Induced Dispersion Analysis (FIDA)).
