We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on the development of a major programme of capital investment.
What you'll do
Reporting directly to the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll be involved in major capital projects, managing pre- and post-contract requirements, up to the value of £40m.
As a key member of the Commercial team, you will:
- manage the contract payment process across several projects, conduct up-to-date, accurate cost value forecasting and report contract changes, opportunities and risks
- prepare subcontractor tender documentation and detailed scopes of work
- engage and assess supply chain partners for capability and delivery
- lead tender analysis, interviews, and reporting
- develop project risk registers and explore value engineering opportunities
- operate to financial deadlines and react to the demands of construction delivery to ensure best value
- attend regular financial meetings with senior team members, owning and updating monthly CVRs and commercial reports
- work closely with Project Managers, Planners, Designers, Engineers, and Estimators
- lead and mentor project-based Quantity Surveyors, Assistants, and trainees
- promote robust commercial processes and a positive team culture.
The roles are based across the Wessex Water region, which includes the locations of Bristol, Bath, Yeovil, Poole, and Taunton. You will be based at various sites or in office hubs across the region.
What you'll need
We are looking for someone with solid quantity surveying experience in the construction industry, preferably with the use of the NEC Suite of Contracts (predominantly using Options A, C or E).
You'll also need:
- a degree in quantity surveying or a similar qualification
- experience with change and risk management, as well as tender and final account negotiation
- good people skills, including leadership skills and the ability to form professional relationships with others
- experience managing commercial teams and subcontractor relationships
- skill in dispute resolution, cost analysis, and project correspondence
- excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Membership of the RICS/ICES is also desirable but not essential.
As this position will require travel between YTL offices and construction sites, a full UK driving licence is required.
