FULL DESCRIPTION

What you'll do

You'll take ownership of the engineering, procurement and delivery of complex M&E projects on live Water Recycling Centres, Sludge Treatment Centres and anaerobic digestion facilities.

You will manage projects involving:

  • anaerobic digester upgrades and refurbishments
  • biogas systems, including gas bags, gas boosters and flare stacks
  • gas detection, hazardous-area equipment and ignition prevention systems
  • DSEAR compliance work, including management of ATEX inspections and remedials
  • sludge treatment processes including pump systems, instrumentation, power and MCC upgrades.

You'll be required to lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate internal engineering resources, and serve as the main point of contact for contractors, suppliers, commercial colleagues, operational teams and internal stakeholders.

Working core hours Monday to Friday, you will be responsible for ensuring that your projects are delivered safely, technically robust, commercially controlled and delivered in line with processes, procedures and quality standards.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • developing project scopes, resourcing and delivery plans
  • managing engineering and construction resource requirements
  • overseeing electrical engineering deliverables with the in‑house design team
  • chairing and attending progress and technical meetings
  • driving innovation and sustainable engineering solutions
  • managing procurement activities with engineers and the buying team
  • managing contracts and sub-contractors in partnership with the commercial team
  • monitoring programme, budget, risks and change control
  • providing monthly forecasting and commercial reporting
  • ensuring lessons learned and benefit reviews are completed
  • leading and developing team members, promoting accountability and high performance.

This role will also have management responsibilities. You'll be keen on encouraging personal accountability while providing regular guidance and performance feedback to team members. The ability to lead, manage and communicate with people is a key skill for this role.

What you'll need

You'll be enthusiastic with a strong background in delivering engineering projects in safety‑critical and DSEAR‑regulated environments.

Essential experience includes:

  • DSEAR and CompEx qualifications
  • an understanding of hazardous area classifications, zone drawings, and ignition hazard assessments
  • experience working on biogas systems or similar process‑gas environments
  • technical understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering
  • experience working on live industrial process sites (water recycling, water treatment, oil and gas, chemical, food, pharmaceuticals, or similar)
  • ability to lead teams, manage contractors and communicate effectively at all levels
  • strong commercial awareness, contractual understanding (ideally NEC), and experience with change control
  • ability to work safely within permit-to-work and isolation procedures
  • CDM experience.
