What is the opportunity?

We are seeking a Senior Product Owner to strategically develop [Employer hidden]'s payment capabilities roadmap, and map out associated infrastructure, with the goal of achieving Direct Clearer status for [Employer hidden] in the Europe region and articulating a clear strategic growth plan.

This is a senior leadership role requiring substantial experience in both payment infrastructure and strategic product development within a regulated financial services environment.

This role supports the Liquidity, Funding and Payments (“LF&P”) team.

The successful candidate will drive strategic planning and stakeholder engagement, and partner across [Employer hidden] to achieve the end state operating model, including internal and external approvals (as necessary) within defined timelines.

This role bridges product strategy with operational excellence, driving the systematic automation, unified controls, and clear accountability that reduce regulatory capital requirements and enable efficient scaling.

This is a full-time, permanent position and requires 4 days in our 100 Bishopsgate offices in London.

What will you do?

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the product vision, roadmap, and operational strategy for GBP and EUR payments, including a phased expansion of capabilities across [Employer hidden]’s operating segments.
  • Work with internal and external partners to deliver on program objectives.
  • Set strategic direction for settlement workflow design aligned to our 2030 Ambition, that collectively define our future end state, enabling unified product offerings and enhanced client value while building a resilient, future-ready operating model. This includes establishing operational resilience standards, a drive toward Straight Through Processing, the codification of preventative controls, real-time monitoring implementation, technology synergies, and operational efficiencies
  • Ensure alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and market infrastructure developments, and the LF&P pillar structure supporting Capital Markets Treasury strategy.
  • Ensure alignment with LF&P pillar. Partner with the Payments pillar lead and LF&P Operations leadership to embed product strategy within the four-pillar operational structure. Ensure payment roadmap decisions support treasury decision-making, operational resilience, regulatory capital optimisation, and scaling objectives. Coordinate with Collateral and Cash pillars on integrated liquidity and funding strategies where payment operations intersect.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Extensive experience in payments, settlement, or treasury operations.
  • Deep knowledge of GBP payment rails, CREST, CHAPS and settlement mechanisms.
  • Deep knowledge of SEPA, Target 2 and other settlement mechanisms supporting the Euro markets.
  • Experience with direct clearing, settlement processes, or payment infrastructure development
  • Familiarity with market infrastructure providers (Euroclear, Bank of England, European Central Bank, LCH, tri-party providers).
  • Strong understanding of EMIR, MiFID II, settlement regulations, and PSD2.
  • Experience navigating regulatory certification processes (Euroclear, Bank of England, European Central Bank eligibility criteria).
  • Knowledge of regulatory capital requirements and operational resilience standards.
  • Proven track record as a Senior Product Owner or Head of Product in financial services.
  • Experience developing multi-phase product roadmaps and business cases.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into operational implementation.
  • Experience leading large, complex cross-functional programs (technology, compliance, risk, operations).
  • Stakeholder management across multiple divisions and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive alignment and accountability in matrix organizations.

Nice-to-have

  • Previous work with major financial institutions.
  • Experience scaling payment operations across multiple divisions or geographies.
  • Knowledge of Capital Markets operations and Wealth Management client requirements.
  • Project management in highly regulated environments.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of settlement workflows, liquidity management, and operational resilience frameworks.
  • Understanding of capital markets infrastructure (derivatives, repo, financing platforms).
  • Experience with payment position visibility and treasury decision-making requirements.
  • Process automation and systematic scaling experience.
  • Track record of driving efficiency improvements (cost reduction, headcount optimisation).
  • Strategic thinking and enterprise-wide perspective.
  • Relationship management with C-suite and external infrastructure providers.
  • Change management and stakeholder engagement across divisions.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and driving outcomes in complex environments.
  • Results-driven with focus on metrics-based performance management.
