At our Rugby facility, we design and manufacture some of the most technically advanced electrical rotating machinery in the world. We specialise in large motors and generators used across a wide range of industrial applications. Our technologies support both highly advanced defence systems and the decarbonisation of industry.

The Manufacturing Readiness & Technologies Team is part of the Engineering function and focuses on developing and implementing innovative manufacturing technologies. The team plays a key role in improving execution, efficiency, and cost through Lean Manufacturing principles and ensuring new projects are prepared for successful production.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Manufacturing Readiness & Technologies Leader, the Lead Manufacturing Readiness Engineer is instrumental in driving Lean initiatives across manufacturing operations. This role focuses on delivering measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead CAPEX investment projects from proposal and cost-benefit analysis through to installation, commissioning, and handover
  • Drive Lean and Kaizen improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency
  • Plan and coordinate preparation activities, including installation of new equipment and contractor supervision
  • Track and report on Kaizen initiatives and associated cost savings
  • Lead presentations and secure senior stakeholder buy-in for project funding
  • Analyse workflows, space utilisation, and equipment layout to optimise manufacturing processes
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting strong team culture and performance
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within a global team to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction

Candidate Profile

Proven experience as a Lean leader with strong ability to drive organisational change

Engineering background with strong CAD design capability (preferably Creo)

Demonstrated experience leading Lean initiatives and/or relevant qualifications

Highly motivated, proactive, and capable of achieving challenging goals

Strong organisational, time management, and decision-making skills

Excellent attention to detail with a structured and methodical approach

Proficient in standard business software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills

Broad understanding of manufacturing processes and best practices

Effective change agent with the ability to influence and motivate others

Flexible and willing to travel or work extended hours when required

Experience in leading engineering design and design reviews

Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation

Strong team collaboration skills in dynamic environments

Experience training shop floor operators and communicating complex processes clearly across all levels, including senior management
