FULL DESCRIPTION

This is a paid position for 4 dancers and a voluntary understudy position for 2 dancers. The project will provide new apprentice dancers pathways into creative careers. They will learn new choreography, gain relevant work experience and tour to 8 venues nationwide through 2023-24. Applicants must have sound training to an advanced level in classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam or Kathak.

This is a paid position for 4 dancers and a voluntary understudy position for 2 dancers.

[Employer hidden] Pathways is our new initiative for aspiring UK-based classical Indian dancers looking to build a future career in dance. This project will provide new apprentice dancers pathways into creative careers. They will learn new choreography, gain relevant work experience and tour to 8 venues nationwide through 2023-24.

4 apprentice dancers and 2 understudies will learn two of [Employer hidden]’s existing works choreographed by Nina Rajarani MBE, [Employer hidden]’s Artistic Director, and will have a new work created for them by Mavin Khoo, currently Akram Khan’s Creative Associate.

The formation of [Employer hidden] Pathways is [Employer hidden]’s response to the needs of the sector to provide a bridge between studentship and professional performance and to nurture the next generation of South Asian dancers.

Applicants must have sound training to an advanced level in classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam or Kathak. You must be interested in seriously pursuing dance in the future and be committed to this year-long programme (part time basis). Besides performance opportunity, apprentice dancers will also receive training in delivering outreach workshops for young and elderly people.

Age range between 16 years (by 31 August 2023) and 25 years

Training and rehearsal dates will accommodate those in full-time education.
