General Assistant (Including Night Porter Shifts) – Live-In Available

3-Star Highland Hotel, Scottish Highlands

Flexible rota including early, late and overnight Night Porter shifts, weekends and public holidays as required

Full-time / Part-time (as applicable)

Role Overview

The General Assistant is a key multi-skilled team member, supporting daily hotel operations across departments while delivering friendly, efficient service in line with the hotel’s 3-star standards.

This varied role includes front of house duties, housekeeping and food & beverage support, as well as regular Night Porter shifts. The position is ideal for someone who is adaptable, reliable, and comfortable working both as part of a team and independently during overnight hours.

Live-in accommodation is available, making this role particularly suited to candidates relocating or seeking work in a remote Highland location.

Key Responsibilities

Front of House & Guest Services

  • Deliver a warm, welcoming, and professional service to all guests
  • Assist with guest check-ins and check-outs as required
  • Handle guest enquiries, requests, and minor complaints promptly and politely
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of public areas

Food & Beverage Support

  • Assist with breakfast service and/or evening service
  • Set up and clear dining areas efficiently
  • Support bar service where required (training provided)
  • Adhere to food hygiene standards and licensing laws

Housekeeping & General Duties

  • Assist housekeeping with bedrooms, linen, and public areas
  • Support laundry operations when required
  • Carry out light maintenance tasks and report any defects
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of staff and service areas

Night Porter Responsibilities

  • Act as the sole overnight point of contact for guests
  • Carry out late arrivals, early departures, and guest assistance throughout the night
  • Complete regular security and safety patrols of the hotel
  • Ensure entrances, fire exits, and public areas are secure
  • Deal calmly and professionally with any overnight incidents or emergencies
  • Set up breakfast areas and prepare public spaces for morning service
  • Complete night audit checks, logs, and handover reports

Health, Safety & Security

  • Follow all health & safety, fire safety, and emergency procedures
  • Report accidents, incidents, or maintenance issues promptly
  • Comply with COSHH, food hygiene, and company policies at all times

Person Specification

Essential

  • Friendly, positive, and customer-focused attitude
  • Willingness to work night shifts and flexible hours
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Good standard of spoken English
  • Physically able to carry out a practical, active role

Desirable

  • Previous hospitality or customer service experience
  • Night Porter or lone-working experience
  • First Aid, Fire Safety, or Food Hygiene training
  • Knowledge of the local area or Highlands tourism
