Bank Cook - Birchwood

Birchwood is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Cook to join their team working on a bank contract. You will be responsible for cooking an assortment of dishes to suit a variety of dietary needs, involved in meal choices and menu planning, ordering stock, stock control and managing a food budget. The role involves preparing and cooking meals, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety and hygiene and resolving customer queries or requests.

Job Introduction

Birchwood is located in a community setting in Lees, Oldham.

Birchwood is a CQC Registered Nursing Home and offers packages of rehabilitation to 16 adults between the ages of 18 and 65 years, who experience severe and enduring mental health needs. We aspire to work in true partnership with our resident’s.

We are now looking for a committed and enthusiastic Cook to join our team working on a bank contract.

You will be responsible for cooking an assortment of dishes to suit a variety of dietary needs. As the cook you will be expected to be involved in the individuals we support with their meal choices and menu planning. You will be jointly responsible for the ordering of stock, stock control and the managing of a food budget. Good food, nutritionally balanced diet and choice is high on our agenda.

The role will involve preparing and cooking meals, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety and hygiene and resolving customer queries or requests.

You will jointly be responsible for overseeing compliance with the Foods Standards Agency and local area Environmental Health Officer and [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk]’s policies and procedures relating to Food Hygiene.

The Cook at Birchwood will also be jointly responsible for supporting residents with cooking skills by offering individual and group cooking sessions. This will require a Cook who has good interpersonal skills and an ability to motivate and engage those that we support.

Role Responsibility

As a cook you will be responsible for:

  • The preparation of beverages and preparing/serving of food to the Residents of Birchwood
  • Ensuring that the kitchen service areas are clean and tidy in line with the Environmental Health and Local Authority Standards
  • Ensuring Health and Safety regulations are followed
  • Cleanliness and replenishment of stock
  • Working in a person-centered approach
  • Ordering stock accurately and efficiently
  • Facilitating individual and group cooking sessions

The Ideal Candidate

  • Have a good understanding of working within the food or catering industry
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be able to budget
  • Previous catering/food preparation experience in a similar role
  • Team working skills
  • Be able to manage and organise a kitchen
  • The ability to be adaptable and able to work within a challenging environment
  • Will have their NVQ Level 1 and 2 or equivalent and Food Hygiene Level 2 or City and Guilds/706/1 & 2
  • Will have an understanding of supporting people with a mental health needs
