FULL DESCRIPTION

The Local Engagement Coordinator leads on the coordination and support for local engagement and placemaking activity within the College. This exciting fixed term role is a joint initiative between the Internal and External Relations and Business & Innovation departments at LCC. It reports to the Cultural and Communities Partnerships Manager and will provide a key support function in the research and development of local engagement strategy and activity across the College drawing upon the teaching and research programmes of LCC.

Working in collaboration with colleagues in the Internal and External Relations andBusiness and Innovation teams,the Local Engagement Coordinator leads on the coordination and support for local engagement and placemaking activity within the College.

This exciting fixed term role is a joint initiative between the Internal and External Relations and Business & Innovation departmentsat LCC. It reports to the Cultural and Communities Partnerships Manager and will provide a key support function inthe research and development of local engagement strategy and activity across the Collegedrawing upon the teaching and research programmes of LCC.

The post holder will be able to work independently and as a member of the Business and Innovation team, and will also work closely with other key staff across LCC including the Internal and External Relations team. The post will require some flexible working, including evening and weekends as required.

Some examples of LCC local engagement activities include:

  • Shopfront –a pop-up graphic design studio for local small businesses
  • LCC Studio- showcasing LCC projects and running workshops in a shopping centre
  • Producing an interactivelight installation in a local park
  • Aiding local young people to document their own lives through photography

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting development of College Local Engagement Strategy
  • Building a comprehensive list of and liaising withlocal stakeholders
  • Exploringexamples of good practice in community engagement
  • Devising, producing and managing pilot community engagement events

Duties will include

Local Engagement Researchand Development

Acting In consultationwith Cultural and Communities Partnerships Managerand Head of Internal and External Relations

Local Engagement Liaison

  • carry out desk research and interviews to map the local demographics and identify shifts in residential population, time scales fornew developmentsetc.
  • In collaboration with the Internal and External Relations team establish a comprehensive listing of local stakeholders across all sectors and through desk research and internal and external interviews map current and recent LCC Engagement projects
  • Research and produce a series of case studies and examples of innovative and effective local engagement at other universities and across UAL

Engagement Project Coordination

Working in close collaboration with the Events and Exhibitions Team.

  • Work with the Events and Exhibitions Team to lead on the planning and implementation of offsite activitiesand projects,supporting events and workshopsfor local communities
  • Provide creative input and ideas for project planning
  • Record and respond promptly orally and in writing to enquiries for partnerships
  • Maintain accurate and up todate booking records for community events
  • Liaise with LCC Events and Exhibitions, lead academics and projectpartners on bookings, deliveryand marketingof projects
  • Work with the Events and Exhibitions Team to plan and manage the delivery of projects and events including identifying workshop presenters and leaders, obtaining budget authorisation, arranging risk assessments helping Internal and External Relations colleagues to market events, overseeing expenditure
  • Liaisewithexternal partners and stakeholders where appropriatefor events
  • Assist with project evaluationfor both internal and external communications and monitoring purposes.

Person Specification

  • Relevant qualification e.g. Degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrable experience of planning and preparation of small- medium scale creative and cultural projects and events.
  • Knowledge of UK’s creative industries and/or cultural sector

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of undertaking research or mapping activity to access and extract relevant information
