Design Manager

Energy Efficient Solutions Group (EESG) is seeking a proactive and organised Design Manager to oversee and enhance their Design function. The role involves managing the design process, overseeing design resources, and ensuring design excellence across Electrical, Mechanical and Systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in design environments, technical knowledge of building services, and strong leadership skills.

Energy Efficient Solutions Group (EESG) was born out of extensive experience in the lighting industry, actively promoting the energy-saving benefits of LED lighting through our organisation. From this background, the Group has evolved to further support our clients in their drive towards decarbonisation and Net Zero, providing a wide range of solutions, including LED Lighting, Solar PV, Heating solutions, Electric Vehicle Charging, and Air Purification.

The Role:

As we continue to expand our Design & Build services, we are seeking a proactive and organised Design Manager to oversee and enhance our Design function. Reporting to the Head of Operations, this role is pivotal in ensuring design excellence and system integration across Electrical, Mechanical and Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Process: You will be responsible for the effective implementation of the design process and be accountable for Pre-Construction completing in line with procedures and to programme.
  • Key Measures: Overall accountability for Utilisation, Efficiency and Productivity of Design Resources.
  • People Management: Be present, be visible. We are looking for a manager who can inspire, develop and nurture talent in line with respective Personal Development Plans and business needs. A maximum of 4 x Design Team Leads will report directly to you. You will set priorities weekly with direct reports, for them to set priorities directly with their resources.
  • Continuous Improvement: We aim to be the market leader, so this means there is still much development across all functions. Together with the wider team, you will play a key role in shaping future services, procedures and output.
  • Design Review: Ensuring direct reports are reviewing documentation accurately and on time to inform project pricing, timelines and scope. Governance of the individual function sign off’s, ultimately ensuring the Stage and Q-Gate requirements have been fulfilled.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Industry Experience: Demonstratable experience at Mid-Senior level within Design environments, leading teams to excel. Minimum 3 years within commercial Design.
  • Technical Knowledge: Building Services, RIBA, Commercial PV.
  • Design & Team Management: Excellent leadership skills with experience of coaching managers through change to obtain improved results.
  • CDM Knowledge: We operate within the construction sector. Therefore, every project has CDM at its core. You will have experience with Design Risk Assessment’s, Design Risk Registers (amongst others) and their role within Design, Execution & Handover.
  • Communication: We require a strong cross function collaborative style. Ensuring alignment throughout Pre-Construction with all necessary stakeholders (internal & external) to meet requirements and deadlines of the project.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • NIC/EAL Level 4 Electrical Design
  • 18th Edition (BS 7671)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with commercial DC Optimised PV systems and integration to wider building services.
