About Us:
Energy Efficient Solutions Group (EESG) was born out of extensive experience in the lighting industry, actively promoting the energy-saving benefits of LED lighting through our organisation, Energy Saving Lighting. From this background, the Group has evolved to further support our clients in their drive towards decarbonisation and Net Zero, providing a wide range of solutions, including LED Lighting, Solar PV, Heating solutions, Electric Vehicle Charging, and Air Purification.
The Role:
As we continue to expand our services across LED Lighting, we are seeking a skilled and passionate LED Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of user-centric, sustainable, and regulation-compliant lighting solutions across a variety of environments including healthcare, education, public spaces, and bespoke specialist projects.
You will be an integral part of the lighting delivery team, working closely with Team Leaders, Project Managers, and Clients to ensure installations are completed on time and to the highest standards. The role requires technical competence, professionalism, a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise directly with clients to understand project requirements and specific site/user needs.
- Design tailored lighting plans that enhance functionality, safety, and user experience for environments such as hospitals, schools, public buildings, specialist care facilities and more.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, sales teams, project managers, contractors, client estates teams and other stakeholders throughout the design process.
- Participate in site surveys with electrical specialists and incorporate input into final designs.
- Select appropriate lighting products and fittings to meet design intent and performance specifications.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, design packages, and installation guides.
- Ensure designs comply with sustainability and energy efficiency standards (e.g., BREEAM, WELL Building Standard).
- Create and modify lighting layouts using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD software.
- Conduct lighting simulations using tools like Dialux, AGi32, or Relux.
- Utilise energy modelling tools to ensure sustainability and cost-efficiency of proposed systems.
- Overlay design requirements on existing architectural and electrical drawings.
- Perform photometric and lighting calculations including illuminance levels, glare control, energy usage, and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to regulations including:
- BS5266 (Emergency Lighting)
- CIBSE Guidelines
- LG02 (Lighting for Healthcare Premises)
- Oversee and support on-site testing and commissioning of lighting systems.
- Ensure all systems function as designed and meet client expectations.
- Deliver final handover documentation including design plans, control system guides, maintenance schedules, and energy performance data.
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Lighting Design, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline
- Relevant industry certifications or training in lighting software (e.g., Dialux, Relux, AGi32, BAFE)
- Membership of a professional body (e.g., CIBSE, IALD, SLL)
- Training in sustainable building practices and energy modelling
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) – must be current
Experience & Competency:
- Proven experience designing LED lighting systems for various settings (healthcare, education, public sector)
- Experience conducting client consultations and translating needs into user-focused lighting designs
- Experience collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams (engineers, contractors, estate teams)
- Site surveying and design adjustment based on real-world constraints
- Experience delivering full project packages including installation documentation
- Commissioning and testing of lighting systems on-site
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in electrical installation, preferably within the commercial or industrial sector
Performance Expectations:
The role involves working directly with clients to understand their requirements and developing user-focused lighting designs that respond to real-world site constraints. You will work closely with engineers, contractors, and estates teams to deliver full project packages—from initial concept through to installation documentation, on-site commissioning, and testing. Strong computer-aided design skills are essential (using tools such as AutoCAD or Revit), along with experience in lighting simulation software including Dialux or Relux. You will be expected to have a sound understanding of lighting control systems and automation integration and be familiar with key standards such as British Standard 5266 for emergency lighting, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers guidance and Lighting Guide 2 for Healthcare.
