FULL DESCRIPTION

Role: 2nd Line Engineer - Contract to Permanent
Location: Essex (near London) (on-site)
Day Rate: £125-£175 per day

We are looking for an experienced 2nd Line Engineer to join their Group IT function on a contract-to-permanent basis. This organisation offers a great opportunity to step into a hands-on, business-critical IT role with long-term potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main on-site IT contact and escalation point
  • Provide 1st and 2nd line support across office and operational environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues end-to-end, escalating where necessary
  • Administer Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra ID)
  • Support M365 upgrades, migrations, and modernisation initiatives
  • Manage users, permissions, mailboxes, and security policies
  • Set up and maintain desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals
  • Support local infrastructure (networking, Wi-Fi, printers, firewalls)
  • Monitor system performance, patching, backups, and security
  • Provide hands-on support during changes (including floor-walking)
  • Maintain IT asset, licence, and configuration records
  • Support IT projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work with site stakeholders to understand IT needs and risks
  • Ensure systems support security, compliance, and business continuity

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in an IT Administrator or senior support role
  • Strong Microsoft 365 experience
  • Experience with M365 migrations or upgrade projects
  • Solid Windows desktop and server knowledge
  • Good understanding of networking (LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, firewalls, switching)
  • Experience supporting users in operational or manufacturing environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Confident communicator with non-technical users
  • Able to work independently on-site and collaborate remotely
  • Security-conscious with a good understanding of IT best practices
