FULL DESCRIPTION
The Shift Manager will report to the Production Manager and lead the production teams to ensure safe, compliant and efficient production within deadline and agreed cost restraints; by effectively managing, organising and planning the production resources, e.g. equipment, materials and labour.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures and legislation.
- Ensure that product quality exceeds customer expectations. (Internal & external customers).
- Ensure ‘Green’ repairs are effective whilst investigating root cause analysis to ‘design’ in quality.
- Manage compliance with QA inspections ensuring daily QC checks are performed above 90% RFT and reported at daily KPI meeting.
- Delivery of production outputs in line with targets and objectives.
- Meet or exceed consistent & sustained achievements against specific KPI targets around OEE, FPE, CTP, Quality, Costs & Efficiencies.
- Effective management of all resources to ensure just in time delivery of materials and other resources aligned to delivery of production plan. Develop a fully flexible team with effective SOP.
- Identification & implementation of productivity improvements using lean principles.
- Be aware of associated costs of production and endeavour to reduce, using the 8-waste principles, where possible.
- Train and develop the production team to maximise efficiency and staff development.
- Contribute to improvement initiatives and developments and provide any other services as required in support of these initiatives.
- Produce weekly reports summarizing plant performance & improvement objectives.
Accountabilities:
- Manage Team Leaders/Supervisors ie their team members, providing feedback where necessary, conducting performance reviews and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all team members and new starters have a full understanding of the duties they are expected to perform, and that they fully understand their responsibilities to work safely (trainings, competency, SOPs, RAs).
- Manage staffing rosters to ensure there is always an optimum staffing complement to meet workload demands, including the pre-authorisation of overtime working where applicable.
- Manage attendance and timekeeping and take initial action in cases of poor timekeeping and unauthorised absence.
- Manage sickness absence, including taking sickness reporting calls and dealing with returns from short-term sickness absence, and support the management of long-term sickness absence cases.
- Ensure that all team members are aware of the expected standards of behaviour, and that these standards are adhered to, maintain discipline and deal with minor infringements of the Employee Rules.
- Organise and lead team pre-shift briefings, ensure team members are kept up to date with Company communications and conduct communications sessions (including but not limited to Toolbox Talks where applicable).
- Cooperate, if necessary, with HR department with needed Investigations, Company Policy adherence meetings, Performance and Probation review meetings, PDR review meetings etc.
Key experience, qualifications and skills:
- - Experience of implementing Lean / leading Continuous Improvement events. Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent as minimum.
- Operational leadership experience in construction end-product, precast concrete or manufacturing environments. casting, setting and pouring of minimum of 5 years.
- Experience of managing people with the confidence to tackle a variety of performance and other related issues, whilst ensuring adherence to HR compliance, processes & policies.
- Specific knowledge and experience of managing production teams.

- (minimum) IOSH Certificate in Managing Safely (preferably NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety)

- First Aid Training (Emergency Responder) – preferred, but not essential.
- Train the Trainer programme
