Andrew Reid – Apprentice Stories
#### What inspired you to continue your professional development through an apprenticeship?
“Having previously completed the CMI Level 3 Team Leader and CMI Level 5 Operations Manager apprenticeships, I recognised an opportunity to finalise my management learning journey by undertaking the Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship. This decision was driven by a strong sense of personal pride and a desire to further strengthen my knowledge, skills and behaviours as a leader. The apprenticeship also provided a clear pathway for future professional development, including the potential to pursue Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).”
#### What support was available to you during your apprenticeship journey?
“Throughout the apprenticeship, I received consistent support from my mentor and colleagues. They worked closely with me to ensure I had access to the right opportunities to gather robust evidence aligned to the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSB) which were required to pass the End-Point Assessment (EPA).
“Star also offered valuable support throughout my learning journey. They encouraged my development and signposted me to key individuals who could offer specific help for each module when required. In addition, they ensured I was given dedicated ‘off the job’ training time to attend on-campus university lectures and complete assignments. This structured support helped to balance work and study commitments, allowing my apprenticeship to run smoothly and be a really positive experience.”
#### What difference has the apprenticeship made to your day-to-day role?
“It equipped me with enhanced knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours, while also building my confidence as a leader. I am now able to better identify operational efficiencies, implement effective management strategies and foster an inclusive environment that supports and motivates a high-performing team.”
#### What advice would you offer to others considering an apprenticeship?
“My key advice would be to ensure you are self-motivated and committed to achieving the end goal, as apprenticeships require dedication and resilience. Being highly organised is essential to manage the workload effectively alongside your job role. Additionally, it is important to communicate openly with colleagues and stakeholders about your apprenticeship, as their support and collaboration play a crucial role in successfully completing the programme.”
