About the role
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll lead operations across our key Northumberland sites:
- Take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of Berwick Transfer Station and HWRC, ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, and service delivery.
- Manage efficient deployment of staff and resources, promote recycling initiatives, and maximise diversion from landfill.
- Ensure full compliance with environmental legislation, health & safety regulations, and all contractual requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the Northumberland PFi team to deliver excellent customer service and exceed performance standards.
- Support the running of additional sites as needed while fostering a positive, motivated team culture.
We value work-life balance and can offer some flexibility on core hours (e.g., to support school runs or caring responsibilities).
What we're looking for
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds — your leadership skills and passion for recycling are what matter most:
- Proven management or supervisory experience in a similar operational environment (essential).
- COTC Level 4 in Hazardous Waste (Transfer) and Treatment Operations (both required; we can support you in achieving these with resources provided).
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
- Strong passion for recycling coupled with excellent communication and team leadership skills.
- Willingness to undertake additional training (e.g. first aid or further health & safety qualifications).
Salary: £41,718 before completion of COTCs, rising to £45,900 upon successful completion. We actively support your development to achieve the required qualifications.
We particularly encourage applications from underrepresented groups in waste management and sustainability. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, please let us know — we’re committed to being an inclusive employer.
