About the role

What you'll be doing
You'll lead the inorganic section and support overall lab excellence:

  • Manage day-to-day activities, staff workloads, recruitment, and personal development reviews to ensure high performance and customer needs are met.
  • Lead analytical method development, validation, and implementation of innovative technologies to ISO 17025 standards.
  • Oversee UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation maintenance, including audits, non-conformances, proficiency testing, quality control, document systems, and assessment visits.
  • Authorise laboratory reports, manage instrumentation service contracts, maintenance schedules, stock/supplies, and sub-contracted work.
  • Champion health & safety standards, conduct inspections, and collaborate with customers, the Quality Manager (as Deputy), and EFW Laboratory Manager on best-practice monitoring and continual improvement.

  • Proven experience leading laboratory teams in analytical/inorganic chemistry, ideally in environmental, waste, or energy sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation processes, method validation, quality management systems, and proficiency testing.
  • Technical expertise in inorganic analysis, instrumentation management, and method development/innovation.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and people-management skills with a proactive approach to health & safety and compliance.
  • Relevant qualifications in chemistry/analytical science (degree or equivalent) and experience with data integrity/report authorisation.
