FULL DESCRIPTION

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is hiring a metal lathe/milling machine operator to join its team in London. Responsibilities include operating metal lathes and milling machines, workshop management, and assisting with design and prototyping. The role is for a freelancer, offering competitive hourly pay and a collaborative environment.

Main responsibilities:

  • metal production and fabrication: operate metal lathe and milling machines for brass component production
  • workshop management: perform regular maintenance on machinery and tools. Track raw material and tool stock levels to ensure smooth workflow
  • design and prototyping: assist in design development and prototyping of new products. Model and sketch designs as required
  • workshop cleanliness: clean and tidy the workshop at the end of each day to maintain a safe and organised working environment

Occasional tasks (if required):

  • assist with CAD drawings and illustrator
  • general workshop assistance (e.g., cutting wood, packaging, painting, electrical wiring, etc.)

What we’re looking for:

  • proficiency with metalworking techniques: at least two years’ of experience working with various metalworking tools and techniques, such as working on the lathe, milling machine (welding, soldering, brazing, cutting, and shaping metal)
  • ability to interpret and produce technical drawings: comfortable interpreting and producing technical drawings to create detailed metalwork components
  • previous experience in artisanal or custom metalwork: ideally, experience working in a setting where custom, high-quality, or artisanal work is produced (e.g., sculpture, bespoke furniture, lighting, etc.)
  • passion for making: a genuine interest in metalwork and product creation
  • precision and attention to detail: high standards of craftsmanship and quality
  • quick learner: ability to adapt quickly and efficiently to new tasks and tools
  • good communication and problem-solving skills: must be able to work closely with the team and solve issues on the spot
  • cleanliness and organisation: a tidy, well-maintained workspace is essential
  • confidentiality: must be comfortable signing an NDA
  • reliability and flexibility: we are looking for a dedicated assistant who can adapt to a range of tasks as needed
