FULL DESCRIPTION

An established award-winning law firm, specialising in personal injury and clinical negligence claims, is looking for a Costs Negotiator to join its busy costs team.

The Role

You will manage a fixed costs caseload, review disputes, negotiate settlements, and prepare cases for summary or detailed assessment. The role also involves drafting letters, Costs Schedules, Part 23 Applications, Part 8 Proceedings, skeleton arguments, and submissions, as well as liaising with fee earners and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage caseloads, WIP, and fee targets.
  • Review and negotiate fixed costs cases.
  • Prepare cases for assessment hearings and attend when required.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the costs team.
  • Maintain the highest standards of client care.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of fixed costs claims, CPR procedures, Pre-Action Protocols, and relevant case law.
  • 2–5 years’ experience handling cases to target.
  • Strong communication, time management, and IT skills (Proclaim, Excel, Cost Master desirable).
  • Professional, commercially aware, and able to work under pressure.
  • Advocacy experience at costs hearings is desirable but not essential.

Salary & Hours

£30,000–£40,000 depending on experience. Excellent career development opportunities, including training contracts or support towards ACL qualification.
