Junior Construction Underwriter

Salary: £30000 - £40000 per annum

Location: Birmingham

You will ideally have a few years of experience within insurance, ideally within underwriting or broking with the right attitude and personal attributes to become the next successful Underwriter in the team.

You will be responsible for helping to grow the Middle Market construction portfolio whilst managing and developing existing accounts. The role covers a mix of new business quotations and renewals, with a strong emphasis on contributing towards  ambitious growth targets.

You will focus on Construction risks which will cover casualty and contract works which is sold as a package.  Risks will on average be around £25k focusing on businesses with  c£5m turnover.   Premiums will likely grow to £100k as volumes increase. You’ll also have exposure to larger package accounts locally.

This is a very hands-on position, you will receive training and mentorship from the Senior Underwriter and team manager. You’ll sit with the team to review submissions, gain experience across multiple areas of construction underwriting, and gradually develop your own technical expertise.

We are looking for a self-starter who is proactive, and confident, with the ability to build strong broker relationships and work collaboratively across the business. Ideally, candidates will have underwriting experience, but those with relevant insurance experience who are keen to learn will be considered.
