Construction Manager
We are currently looking to recruit a Construction Manager to join our A40 Llanddewi Velfrey to Redstone Cross road construction/highways project in Pembrokeshire. The project consists of the construction of a new off-line 6km carriageway. This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate with highways, structures, earthworks and drainage industry experience.

We are currently looking to recruit a Construction Manager to join our A40 Llanddewi Velfrey to Redstone Cross road construction/highways project in Pembrokeshire.
*This role requires experience of managing highways projects.*
The project consists of the construction of a new off-line 6km carriageway. As well as the road construction works, there will be new structures: two precast bridges, multiple culverts, attenuation ponds, accommodation tracks and de-trunking and active travel facilities. This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate with highways, structures, earthworks and drainage industry experience.
The project has commenced but has a significant term left, and then this position would then continue within the thriving Alun [Employer hidden] Business within the South Wales region.
Given the initial position would be carried out on the A40 in Llanddewi Velfrey, near Narbeth, we will be looking to receive applications from candidates based within a one hour radius of this location or from candidates willing to relocate. Carmarthen would be the closest town, approximately 20 minutes east.

Role Responsibility
Based at the A40 Llanddewi Velfrey Project, the Construction Manager will report to the Project Manager and has a responsibility to ensure that the project is accurately delivered on time and to budget in a safe, environmentally friendly manner and to the high quality standards set by the Project Manager and Company Quality Assurance systems. They will also:
- Be a TEAM member on this large project
- Hold meetings, engage and control the construction team focussing them on safe delivery
- Take control of the construction of this £45M+ project across its construction programme
- Engage with the Client during the construction and ensure risks are understood and allocated between the relevant parties
- Develop agreed programmes and methodologies during construction phases
- Offer a high level of service to this key Client. Ensure Alun [Employer hidden] comply with all Client and legal obligations throughout the duration of the projects.
- Comply and implement the companies Integrated Management System procedures and guidance and promote its implementation with the Project Team
- Develop a proactive working relationship with Clients and Consultants and report any potential issues or opportunities to the Project Manager and Operations Director
- Familiarise themselves with all Contract Documentation and Drawings including Company Management Plans to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the Project
- Implement and address items requested by the Project Manager, and review the Contract Programme for their Section and inform of any improvements or concerns
- Monitor delivery of the project, identifying risk and opportunities to optimise project delivery through the development and management of a Project Risk Register for wider programme issues, ensuring that the Agents develop and manage their section specific Risk Registers for local issues
- Set and align targets in line with budget forecast, review cost/value with Commercial Manager through weekly cost meetings
- Identify and action improvements to prevent losses, maximise profitability, and report Cost/Value to the Commercial Manager on a Monthly basis
- Promote and lead the site safety culture, ensuring that all works are carried out in a planned, controlled and safe manner, in accordance with statutory regulations, current standards, and the Company SHEQ standards
- Encourage those under your leadership to grow and develop getting the best out of them whilst sharing knowledge
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate ideally with previous Construction Management experience within an operational environment who possesses the following skills/experience:
- Extensive experience of Civil Engineering industry particularly ideally with experience of working adjacent to waterways, dams, flood alleviation projects, etc.
- A working knowledge of NEC contracts and other common forms
- Potentially a Chartered Engineer or keen to become a Member
- Strong personal and organisational skills
- Good Leader and encourages others
- Strong communication and IT skills
- Good attention to detail
- Can solve problems calmly, safely and effectively
- To be self-motivated and be able to prioritise and manage workload
- To be responsive to the needs of internal and external customers and colleagues
- High level of Commercial acumen
- Understand change and know how to control it
- Passion for keeping people safe and improving themselves, cultures and individuals
- Customer focus and the ability to build relationships.
- Good negotiation skills
- An ability to plan and organise works safely and efficiently.
- Excellent organisation ability
- A preference for teamworking and collaboration
- Strong communication and IT skills
- The ability to prioritise and manage workload and is self-motivated.
- A good understanding of current methods and up to date knowledge of specifications and contract principles

Education/Certification Requirements:
- Preferably a further education qualification e.g. Degree or HND/HNC (ideally relatable to Civil Engineering)
- CSCS qualification
- SMSTS qualification
- Potentially a Chartered Engineer or someone focussed on achieving this
- Ideally a an Appointed Person or Temporary Works Co-ordinator
