We are currently looking for a Technician to join our friendly team based at [Employer hidden] Birtley in Chester-le-Street. This role is easily commutable from Durham, Gateshead, Sunderland, Stockton on Tees or Newcastle upon Tyne areas.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the Technical systems manager, the role of Technician will be responsible for:

  • The testing of various construction materials on a daily basis where accuracy will be paramount. This will be carried out to the highest safety standards and within your manual handling capabilities
  • At times visiting other sites within [Employer hidden] and carry out various sampling and testing duties
  • The majority of material testing carried out within the laboratory, which will include ovens, furnaces, sieves (with a mechanical shaker), weighing apparatus, chemicals and other scientific based equipment
  • Ensuring the quality of the materials is monitored at all times
  • Adhering to company Health and Safety procedures at all times

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in the role of Technician we are looking for a candidate ideally with laboratory experience gained in construction sector, who possesses knowledge of aggregate and asphalt production (although we welcome applications from candidates without experience as full training will be provided). Candidates suitable for the role of Technician will also:

  • Be hard working and self-motivated
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with stakeholders of varying seniority levels
  • Be accurate in their work and with strong attention to detail
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • Be flexible in their working approach (there is the opportunity for out of hours overtime if preferred)
  • Be IT Literate
  • Be Health and Safety conscious
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
