Accountant

The Accountant will join the Record to Report team within the Shared Service Centre, reporting to the Assistant Manager Capital Accounting. Responsibilities include contributing to financial information and management accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting month-end close processes. The role involves supervising junior team members and ensuring accounting is in line with CRH policies.

We are currently looking for an Accountant to join our team based in Solihull, next door to Birmingham International train station working on a hybrid basis.

Role Responsibility

This role will see you join our Record to Report team within our Shared Service Centre, reporting to the Assistant Manager Capital Accounting. To support the Assistant Manager in partnering with key business stakeholders on specific focus area (depending on R2R team in which the role resides). Contribute to the provision and reporting of effective financial information and management accounting at each month end and through the month as required. Part of a technically knowledgeable team, taking ownership of balance sheet risk and P&L impact for areas of focus, working closely with Business Finance teams and providing subject matter expertise with the support of the Assistant Manager. Contribute to the team’s high quality output and maintain accurate recording of transactions and ensure accounting is in line with CRH accounting policies and accounting standards. Supervise, coach and develop more junior team members. Performing tasks associated with the preparation and posting of transactions into the general ledger; adhering to strict timetables, Balance sheet reconciliations, reporting requirements and effective intercompany settlement and/or elimination.

  • Preparation of and posting of journals.
  • Support Assistant Manager as part of team delivering month end close.
  • Completion of high quality balance Sheet reconciliations in accordance with guidelines and timetables. Working closely with business unit finance teams, ensuring full understanding and documentation of any balances and timely resolution of any issues, including managing expectation of any P&L impact.
  • Play a key role in quarterly Balance Sheet Reviews with business unit finance
  • Prepare reporting as required for own area of focus including quarterly financial reporting
  • Review of journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Input into or completion of Sox controls as required.
  • Supporting both internal and external audit.
  • Ownership for process, policy and procedures for own sub-areas of responsibility and that transactions are completed in line with these
  • Support Assistant Manager with cross team working across R2R and SSC as required including any inputs required to Statutory Accounts or Tax processes
  • Supervising, coaching and developing the assistant accountants in the team.

The Ideal Candidate

Should have UK based work experience including Sarbanes Oxley and be minimum part-qualified ( ACA / CIMA / ACCA) – study support provided

Able to deal with large quantities of complex data – excel skills essential.

Has experience of an internal control framework, such as Sarbanes Oxley

Good understanding of accounting principles

Able to make balanced decisions

Have prepared both journals and reconciliations to high standard, and able to demonstrate what good looks like when it comes to narrating and evidencing journals and balance sheet reconciliations

Able to work to tight deadlines and able to escalate issues confidently

Good knowledge of accounting and financial systems

SAP system knowledge is desirable

BlackLine system knowledge is desirable
