Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to announce the development and introduction of these new, innovative, and exciting posts, which have been designed primarily for trainees who have successfully completed their FY2 placements and wish to complete a IMT equivalent training programme. We envisage these roles as being an ideal steppingstone for trainees between their FY2 and Specialty training posts and offer opportunities for applicants to develop skills and experience in other areas such as medical education and quality/service improvement.

Main duties of the job

From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site junior trainee rota. The Resident Trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 Resident Doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week.

Duties will be based primarily at Pinderfields & Dewsbury sites although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.

These roles will enable the post holder to take supervised responsibility for patient care and consolidate the skills they have learned at medical school. As the post holder gains experience they will remain under clinical supervision but take on increasing responsibility for patient care. In particular they will begin to make management decisions as part of their progress to independent practice.

During their tenure the post holder will further develop their core generic skills and contribute more to the education and training of the wider healthcare workforce. At the end of their tenure the post holder will have begun to demonstrate clinical effectiveness, leadership and the decision making responsibilities that are essential for the next stage of their careers.

Job description

The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, which includes a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital.

Vacancies have arisen at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield within the Division of Medicine for doctors equivalent to CT level. The posts will include training in all the competencies required for completion of Internal Medicine training. The post is offered on a fixed term 12 months with possible extension to 24 months, depending on successful ARCP after 12 months.

Post holders will need to have evidence of achievement of foundation competencies, via current employment in a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or 12 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competencies at the time of application. Only a valid FPCC (FACD 5.2) or alternative certificate of foundation competence will be accepted as evidence.

The post holders should have worked within the NHS for a minimum of 6 months in any medical or surgical speciality including general practice.

We are looking for doctors to work at CT equivalent level within various speciality teams including Acute Care, Cardiology, Respiratory, Diabetes/Endocrine & Elderly Medicine teams in the management of their in-patient & out-patient workload and will participate in out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites. The CT1 and CT2 years will consist of 3 x four-month rotations per year.

The post holders will participate on full shift rotas and will be required to provide a range of services. The post holders will also be encouraged to undertake continuing medical education and study leave will be available as per the Trust policy. The post holders will have the opportunity to attend departmental teaching every week.

We will encourage, support, and provide the opportunity to study and practice for your post graduate exams, undertake audit/research projects, attend on-site educational programmes and simulation sessions. We will provide limited funding towards one or two courses required for completion of IMT training.
