Health and Wellbeing Coach
Health and Wellbeing Coaches take an approach that considers the whole person in addressing existing issues and encourages proactive prevention of new and existing illnesses. They use an approach that is non-judgemental, based on strong communication and negotiation skills, which supports personal choice and positive risk taking, addresses potential consequences and ensures patients understand the accountability of their own decisions, making the patient at the centre of every conversation.

Main duties of the job
As a Health and Wellbeing Coach, you will utilise your health coaching skills to support people on the surgical waiting list, to become optimised for surgery - this will include, but not limited, to stopping smoking, reducing BMI, reducing alcohol consumption, managing long term conditions (diabetes and hypertension) and increasing activity levels.

Job responsibilities
- Coach and motivate patients through multiple sessions to identify their needs, set goals, and support them to implement a personalise plan.
- Provide personalised support to individuals to ensure that they are active participants in their own healthcare journey; empowering them to take more control / active role in managing their own health and wellbeing and improve their health outcomes.
- Providing interventions.
- Build and maintain relationships with local community groups, other health, social care, and voluntary sector providers.
- Working with local community groups, other health, social care, and voluntary sector providers to connect patients to community-based services.
- Supporting people to establish and attain goals set by the person based on what is important to them.
- Working across the perioperative pathway to deliver specific health advice, where appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to A level / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent knowledge of healthcare settings acquired through training and experience.
Desirable
- Training in motivational interviewing / coaching.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of dealing with complex patients including patients in a sensitive or heighten emotional state.
- Experience of dealing with highly complex/sensitive issues.
- Experience of working in health organisations.
- Understands importance of, and has experience in, stakeholder management and engagement including communication planning.
